Depending on your Hosting package you can:
1. Create a new domain name on the same package and define it's root folder the same as the current Domain name. You would not then need to alter any files. Joomla uses relative url's and prefixes them with the Domain name.
Or
2. Create a new Domain name on a second Hosting package (some Hosting packages only allow one Domain per Hosting package). In which case you would need to copy the site over or point the second Domain name to the first.
Neither of which would require editing the files if you used Akeeba to copy the site.
Another option would be to use another Host to create a new Domain name (and if you choose a Hosting package). You could then point that at the current Domain or copy the site.
Option #1 would probably be the easiest and cheapest. Option #2 if your Host only allows 1 Domain per account. The other options are more complicated and usually unnecessary.
