On a couple of Joomla 3 sites I used the Form2Content component and it was brilliant. When Joomla went to version 4 the developer stopped supporting it and I went to using a template base article and custom fields. It works well for this particular client as he understands how to use it (though he did screw up a few times at the beginning!!).
I have a small site I'm developing for an aircraft-based club right now. Their current site has a "user marketplace" (think buy, sell, swap) page. There are never more than about a dozen or so entries on it at any one time. I looked at the very slim pickings under the classified ads section in JED and only a couple are Joomla 5 ready and both are paid, which I'm trying to avoid if possible.
They are also WAY more than this site needs. I just want a simple way for visitors (who have made an account) to post an ad. A "form to article" system is more than enough for this site's needs. If it ever gets bigger, I will look at a full-blown component.
Sorry, that took longer to say than I expected! There was talk of this functionality being included in Joomla 5. Did that ever happen? I also heard that this feature was one that didn't get included.
