Hi again.
I have found that Akeeba Backup, necessary to use Kickstart, doesn't work any more on the MAMP website and I don't think I can install Kickstart either.
So I think I need to put back the original parameters in the MAMP website, get it to work again, then install Kickstart and use it to run the installer you provided.
Is all this correct?
Thanks
No, you don't "install" kickstart in Joomla (it's not an extension). Kickstart is a stand-alone script that extracts the files from the backup archive, and then an internal installer script runs (in a similar fashion to Joomla's installation), asking for details such as database credentials etc and restores the database. The result is (should be) a working website.

You run the script kickstart.php script from your browser. Makes sure to place kickstart.php and the JPA (akeeba backup archive) in the same folder (n.b. it must be in an *empty* (new) folder or delete existing site). You should also use a new database or at the very least, when entering the db details, specify a new database table prefix. The db doesn't need to be the same name as your live site.

In MAMP I assume you would place your web files ina folder such as "htdocs/your-site-name" (for me, I use WAMPSe4rver (Windows) and they are placed in the "public_html/your-site-name" folder, but similar idea.

I would suggest to read Akeeba's documentation, which is the best source of information:
